Design
The boxy frame of the Bronco Sport helps it attract attention. The round headlamps and the Bronco nameplate on the front grille are nice touches, reminding all of us of the Ford Bronco's long history. The contrasting roof adds to the style of the SUV, too. The flip-up rear glass offers easy access to the cargo area, the available roof rack can hold a significant amount of weight, and there's a bottle opener integrated into the hatch. In the cabin, there are numerous storage areas so that you can keep all your gear organized. There's also the option to get a MOLLE strap system for your smaller accessories. Having rubberized seatbacks and cargo flooring can be so useful if you're someone who has a tendency to get a bit muddy on your adventures.
It's important to note the size of the Bronco Sport. It has a somewhat compact footprint, but it can hold quite a bit thanks to its height and safari-style roof. In fact, it can even get set up to hold two bikes standing up, side by side, when the rear seats get lowered.
Trim Levels
We carry four trims. The Base is the entry-level option, and it has a comprehensive package. It comes with several driver-assist systems that can keep you safe as you travel on the roads around town. Those systems include lane-keeping assist, pre-collision assist, and blind-spot monitoring. In addition, the Base has SYNC® 3 technology with a touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The next trim is the Big Bend. Its upgrades include heated side mirrors and privacy glass on the rear windows and liftgate. It's the trim at which the MOLLE straps and rubberized cargo floor mat become standard. Plus, it has SiriusXM Satellite Radio.
With the Outer Banks, the level of sophistication appears elevated. For instance, the cabin of the Outer Banks comes with ambient lighting and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The steering wheel offers heating, and it comes wrapped in leather. The leather-trimmed front seats have heating elements, too.
The last option to think about is the Badlands. It has the most robust powertrain and 4x4 system. Beyond this setup, the Badlands has a few more features than the others. It comes with a front 180-degree camera, and it has an off-road suspension that can handle really rugged conditions.
Fuel Economy
The Badlands is the only trim to run on a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. This engine delivers 249 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, so it can make the Bronco Sport feel very spirited. In comparison, the other trims all use 1.5-liter EcoBoost engines. Since this type of engine is a bit smaller than the one found on the Badlands, it can't quite hit the same marks in terms of capability. However, you'll still feel more than satisfied with what it can do; it can make 181 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. A 4x4 drivetrain is standard.
With the smaller engine, the Ford can earn an EPA-estimated 25/28 (city/highway) miles per gallon. Having the larger engine results in an estimated fuel economy of 21/26 miles per gallon.
